A SACCHARINE ODE TO THE STREET NAMES OF EAST SINGAPORE
Sky princesses, a sentient tree, a journalist in search of a mysterious village are some of the characters that feature in this zine about the roads of east Singapore and the alternate histories woven about them. Taman Timur or “Eastern Park” is about mixing personal tales, history and memory. Come, take a walk with us. From the minds that brought you Fairuz Jaafar and Hussain Rashid.
ONCE, BRUSHED HANDS AND STOLEN GLANCES TRIGGERED EARTHQUAKES OF YEARNING
While writing tales rooted in the streets of Kembangan, two roads sparked the fictional story of Sarina and Rahmat, a tale of entwined hearts unravelled by the threads of fate. Inspired by the wistful melodies and lovelorn lyrics of 70s music, “Sarina” grew from a fleeting idea into a full-fledged music video.

A LOVE STORY THAT SEEMED DESTINED TO STAND THE TEST OF TIME
Alas, in the dance of destiny, their love’s steps were banned. Nobody knew what happened to them or why these lovers were separated. Only that years later, Rahmat penned down this song to convey his emptiness with her absence, but her presence lingers in his heart.
SARINA: THE PLAY
“Sarina” was reimagined as a debut play for the LOST ARTS FOUND programme, an artist residency at *Scape. The interactive performance explored the emotional struggle of a love left suspended, what it means to hold on, and what it means to let go.
Serving as a prologue to the music video, the play introduced our protagonist Rahmat, trapped in a time loop, reliving moments of love, regret and longing. A reflection of how life can sometimes feel: stuck, unable to move forward, weighed down by the past.
Audience members became part of the story, their responses guiding how the play unfolded in real time. To close the loop, they were invited to write a note of advice to their future selves afterwards, as a moment of reflection.
